About the Royal Union Rifles
The Royal Union Rifles represent a fictional British Army of the Rhine light infantry platoon circa 1982. Formed in 2010 the RUR, or ‘Rifles’, represent the British Army in its Cold War years of 1980-1989.
The aim of the RUR is:
- To promote the history of the British Army throughout the Cold War period and represent the Army’s involvement within Europe (BAOR), Northern Ireland and the Falklands conflict.
- To co-ordinate attendance at UK shows and to discuss period uniform and equipment.
- To contribute to historical research and regimental histories, including publications and film.
The RUR are a very 'hands on' group who do not believe in sitting behind a rope drinking tea and are happy to engage directly with the public in answering questions and letting them try out kit. When/if a member of the public comes into contact with any small arm we ensure that a member of the group has control of the situation and at least one hand on the piece of equipment at all times. The group members who re-enact are all AFRA registered and have PLA.
